Marianne
Chymos / Ruutukuva
Live action treated optically until it stops behaving like photography. A woman in a red coat by the water puts a sweet in her mouth and her large round sunglasses fill up with red and white candy stripes, which states the whole idea in one shot. From there the stripes take the picture over: a man in a bowler hat on a flight of steps is made of the same stripes as the wall behind him, readable only where they bend around his shoulders and his hand, with a line of cursive writing beside him that does not resolve. The strongest piece is a colonnaded building that reads as the Finnish Parliament House, shot straight and left as stone except for the fourteen column shafts, which have been replaced with lit candy sticks while the capitals and the entablature stay photographic. That lands with the copy line, "Mariannen maun takana on koko kansa" [the whole nation is behind Marianne's taste], so the visual pun and the claim arrive together. The end card is flat by comparison, three bags laid out, Mikko, Marianne and Marimint, under CHYMOS in red.
What is said: Piparmintun ja suklaan makua. Kymoksen Marianne on maan pidetyin karamelli. Mariannen maun takana on koko kansa. Ja kivan makuisia ovat myös Mikko ja Marimintti.
