Picnic

Painted cel animation against a flat blue sky: two children sleep in beds that drift among cornflakes, the flakes doubling as clouds, and by the third shot one bed is empty and the dream has become a voyage. The invention is in the substitutions. The sea is made of overlapping orange slices, a lighthouse is stacked out of cereal, a bowl of flakes sits on the horizon like an island, and a dog in a sailor's cap waves from the stern of a white liner. Photographed Picnic packs are then stood up in that painted landscape at the scale of buildings, a scalloped Corn Flakes plate is turned into a bandstand with a counter and stools, and Mickey Mouse in a chef's apron, Donald Duck and a Goofy-type dog are painted in among them with two large drawn children throwing their arms up. It closes on the packs with fresh fruit and a glass of milk under the Melia mark while the sung chorus repeats "Tulkaa piknikille, tästä alkaa seikkailumme" ("Come to the picnic, this is where our adventure starts"), so the product arrives as the place the journey was heading for.
