Tampere Film Festival

Everything happens inside one small square window in the middle of black, ruled with a fine grid that quarters it and crosses it corner to corner, like a field chart or a viewfinder guide. Inside the window is live action of a front door behind iron railings, drained almost to black and white so that one element at a time carries colour: two green fish hanging in the doorway, and later the door itself in red while two figures in dark coats walk up the path towards it. The picture then blurs and dissolves into a densely hatched drawing of two hands reaching across each other, worked in fine cross-hatched line in the manner of an old engraving. The move works because the drawing arrives in the same ruled box at the same size, registered on the same grid, so the photograph and the drawing read as one object seen twice and the frame never has to move. TAMPERE FILM FESTIVAL fades up in small white capitals underneath and the film stops there, with no voice-over.
